I’m thrilled to announce that my latest article, "Designing the Urban Coexistence: Challenging Speciesism for Equitable Spaces Beyond Human Boundaries," has just been published in Anales de Investigación en Arquitectura (Vol. 14, No. 1, January-June 2024).

What’s the Story?

Urban spaces often prioritize human needs, but what about the countless other species that share these environments with us? My research takes a fresh look at this issue, exploring how cities can become more inclusive for all living beings.

Key points include:

  • Breaking Down Barriers: Let’s rethink the “humans first” mindset in urban design and create spaces where people and nature thrive together.

  • Justice for All: What if we designed cities to be fair and equitable for animals, plants, and all living things?

  • Global Relevance: With frameworks like the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, there’s never been a better time to rethink how we approach urban living.

Why It Matters

Our planet is facing serious biodiversity challenges. This paper argues that architects and urban planners have the power—and responsibility—to create spaces that support life in all its forms. Imagine cities buzzing with diverse wildlife, where humans and nature coexist in harmony. This research is about making that vision a reality.
